Skins

We source skins from all over the world; calf, goat, deer and kangaroo.

Each skin has a known provenance and each is specially prepared. You are advised to talk to us about the sound palette you are looking for and we can make suggestions. The full story..... well, if we put it all in print it would be longer than “War and Peace”! To find out more details about our drum heads please visit the archangel drumheads site

The Health Warning...................
Be wary of “soft, soggy heads with that instant bass”. Like all activities that require constant repetition of a limited range of movement, drums with these heads place greater demands on the body and enthusiasm could push you in the direction of RSI or even more serious problems.

The health and playing longevity of the musician is as important to me as the drum so much so that I have consulted with biomechanic friends and professionals and with every drum goes a “health package” and very strong admonitions. Of course, if they select a drum and put the “let it play itself” credo into practice all our minds rest easy.

Be careful now, there are drums out there that bite!

"a drum should have a balanced palette of sounds that will let player and instrument effortlessly display their musicality; without being struck the drum should interact with the universe; no heavy sticks nor heavy physicality are required. The player sits focused and centres his energy, the drum mediates and releases the energy of both and appears to “play itself”. Rather than being exhausted, fatigued and spent at the end of a performance, the player should “awake refreshed”.
